the bartenders (loosely apply this term) at Bagus say Okaeri (Welcome home/back) when you rock up for a chill-out. Bagus is open for summer! I am one very happy, relaxed gypsycat. A typhoon totally gutted Bagus last October, so they’ve had to rebuild most everything inside. The basis is the same, but a newer, spacier feeling pervades. The handbasin is a glorious mosiac of coloured tiles, the stage finally has steps up onto it, a huge piece of concrete has been turned into a fireplace on the beach, the beach has been cleaned and the sand evened out. It is the retreat I remember. *contented sigh* Tomorrow night I get to introduce anachronoclast and his travelling companion to it, and Sunday there is a drumming performance. *embraces Bagus happily* I’ve missed you!
Also, fire and coals are difficult to photograph. Firelit sand is pretty funky. And I’m very much in love with my 20D. It just gets better and better – and I don’t even have the english manual yet!
Keep trying to photograph fire though… I lvoe food flame and coal photos… 🙂
Ooh, hadn’t thought about firelit sand…
Ooh! I wanna go to Bagus! Pick me! ME!
Have you started having fun with a tripod and long exposure? Infinite experimentation to undertake there!
Oh and Bagus sounds wonderful. I want one! 🙂
Yes, I think everyone should have a Bagus..or at least every city by the beach. Have not yet managed photos which convey the vibe, but shall keep trying 😉
Then come!
Just started, have borrowed Mum’s tripod and fast making a list of things to look for when I buy my own. Like it so far for stationary stuff, but found it frustrating for fireworks – it’s all just learning a new way of photographing I think.
Didn’t have my tripod last night – I have to decide to take it wiht me anywhere as is awkward – but thinking I will take it to Bagus soon.
It would be great to be a regular at a place like that. Somehow I became a regular at Soul Mama in under a week. Then I had to leave….*sigh*
In the Encyclopedia Britannica, if you look under ‘Bagus’ it says:
1) n. : A mixed nerve that supplies the pharynx, larynx, lungs, heart, esophagus, stomach and most of the abdominal viscera. Oh, wait. That’s Vagus.
2) adj. : A state of relaxed contentedness most often associated with Gypsycat
3) Prop. n: A bar on the beach near Wakayama. Named after 2).
