Now something to really make me proud :-D

This weekend is a long weekend. Stonewall (the gay/bi/les/tran community of JET) had a weekend of waterskiing and various other water activities on offer at Lake Biwa. I really wanted to go, but couldn’t due to the JHS Speech Contest being held yesterday. I would’ve actually skipped it, except that two students I’ve been tutoring were in it and I really did want to be there for them.

The hours upon hours (typically 5) of the same stories, the lunchtimes and trekking out to Nishiwaki for last minute tutoring, the missing out of a long weekend was all worth it to see Asami win second place!!!! She, and four others, will go on a homestay in America next spring vacation. Asami has worked so hard for this, and she was fantastic yesterday – not just me, but people around me without knowing she was my student, commented how amazing she was. *glows with pride and excitement*

Natsumi’s speech – A student at The Zoo who was been coming every lunchtime to practice. She has improved heaps and I was sorry she didn’t even get a special mention. Ah well. Fingers crossed for her next time.

Asuka, Asami and I – Look how much I love these students…I even did the peace sign for them! This is a once-off only :-p

Asuka, Asami and Yoshikawa sensei – a new teacher at Nishiwaki. Oh yeah, these two students are from my fave school, Nishiwaki.

Still can’t believe a student of mine has gotten in. This is the third year I’ve been to this contest and the other two years I really haven’t thought any of the students from my schools have shone. There were actually 6 of my students there yesterday and one other received a special mention. However, it was Asami and Natsumi who I really went for because they have worked so hard with me to do this.

*happy, happy glow*

NB. My new Japanese phrase of the day: 私はあなたをほこりのもです。 (I’m so proud of you)

Excellent. It’s always a brilliant experience to see one of your students succeed–especially when you know they deserve it!
