4 and a bit more days

I am so looking forward to friday. This morning, a first year girl arrives late, but proudly announces to the anyone left in the staffroom “Hey, I came!” Tomo takes her aside to remove her make up but can only find the nail polish remover. He tells her to remove her makeup somehow and she says it can’t be done. One of the female teachers brings out the make up remover tisues, and soon she is fresh-faced again.

Fresh faced and fresh attitude. Just had her class, with Iwahashi…oh fun and joy, please contain yourselves. This girl spent the time wandering around, graffiting other student’s desk (when she got bored of her own), altering the graffiti on her desk, chatting to other students and practising a dance. Other students spent the time ignoring us teachers, getting graffiti off their desks, running around and we even had a small fight. For all that, they were still quieter than the second years – guess they haven’t finished their first year of Zoo training yet!
Iwahashi did nothing to control the class; I really don’t think she knows how. The class activity which other teachers have been doing in three groups, she chose to do individually. Any help the students needed, they would look to her for even if I offered the answer. There was absolutely no point to me being there. So tempting to take a book next time and sit up the back.

There is another girl who has been in the staff room numerous times, for having bleached brown hair. Usually she is brought in to have her hair sprayed black, and to be told to dye her hair. The last exchange I overheard was her replying that she did want to dye her hair black, it was just too mendokusai (troublesome, annoying).

*shakes head in disbelief*

I don’t think the students here will ever lose the ability to amaze me with their attitudes and the sheer magnitude of their lack of respect. If they, do, that will be a sad day indeed.

Tomo seems to have become one of the main troubleshooters here. He is one of the few teachers who know how to deal with the students compassionately and effectively. As a result it seems at least half the students who get into trouble, he ends up talking to.

oh, and I will be back for one afternoon next week. Tomo has to do a demonstration class and has asked me to help. I’ve been extremely lucky, to get demo classes with the teachers I enjoy teaching with.

Hugs to you sweetie!

It does sound though that it’s a little better though. You still have support from this side of the ken.
