Ophelia update

We had her monthly vet check yesterday. Her blood pressure was a little up from last time, but overall the vet was very happy with her. Her kidney functioning seems to have stabled, at 30%. Not great, but good that it’s not decreasing anymore. She’s still having problems with constipation and the vet doesn’t want to start her on painkillers until that is sorted out. So two more weeks with two more medicines and then we discuss pain relief for the arthritis. It’ll be nice to no longer have to keep a poo diary for her!

The vet said that once we determine exactly which medication she needs to stay on, he can order it specially compounded into one pill for the morning and one for the evening – and that once a cat is taking xx number of pills, it actually works out cheaper to do so. In the meantime, she has either 3 or 3 1/4 pills each time. Plus liquid medicine and powder medicine.

zen_cat had the idea to bring round his coffee bean grinder so I can compound the medicines myself and serve them in food for her. Much much easier than forcing pills down her throat.

Her moods seem more variable now and she seems grumpier more often (still only a minority of time) but whether that’s due to pain, or whether that’s due to me spending so much time away from home and coming home just to medicate and quickly cuddle her, I don’t know. She’ll be happy when next week comes and I’m not going out to work everyday!

The icon is her grumpy expression!

She is such a beautiful girl 🙂

Coffee, drugs and a cat. Well I bet that won’t be dull, best wishes to a lovley pussy cat 🙂

She so is! She does approve of having her medicine ground and mixed with mince – that went down a treat last night!

gypsyamberMay 29, 2007 - 11:48 pm

Funnily enough, I am keeping the coffee out of the picture. But she does approve of drugs ground up and mixed into raw mince – she was a very happy putty last night!

paradigmshiftyMay 30, 2007 - 12:35 am

I’ll bet she did 🙂

Good food monkey 🙂

I know how to buy my cat’s love 😉 Actually the fatty mince is also for her health. Unlike humans with high blood pressure, cats actually benefit from having a lot of fat in their diet when their blood pressure is high.

On a completely different topic: I’m looking for someone who can design a website which will be easy to follow and easy for me to update regularly. Hil mentioned that you design webpages…

Do you have some you can point me too, and what are your normal going rates?

paradigmshiftyMay 30, 2007 - 2:43 am

I might be able to help, yes 🙂

Might be easier to sit down over coffee and chat about what you need. I have lots of hosting space available that you’re welcome to use and depending on what you want to do I might be able to do it for you really easily.

Let me know if you’re going to be in the city one evening, or when you’re free for a visit.

paradigmshiftyMay 30, 2007 - 2:45 am

Oh, I forgot. Rates for friends are very negotiable. It very much depends on how complex you want to get.

Don’t worry about it too much – I’m a sucker for a pretty girl 🙂

gypsyamberMay 30, 2007 - 3:23 am

Not this week, but I might be up for organising something next week, or definitely the week after. Would you prefer to meet in the city one evening, or come over to our place and I’ll cook dinner?

Now, I’ve just gotta start my research – oh how will I ever bear looking at umpteen photographic websites!

gypsyamberMay 30, 2007 - 3:25 am

Thank you. I am a great believer in respecting friends’ skills and professions and not taking advantage of them…however I’m also learning to ask for help when I may not be able to reciprocate immediately.

paradigmshiftyMay 30, 2007 - 3:37 am

Either is good 🙂 Maybe I can twist Hilary’s arm and get her to come along as well… or just visit her there 🙂

One question, so I can start my subconcious working on the problem – is this to be a commercial or a display site?

paradigmshiftyMay 30, 2007 - 3:42 am

I very much appreciate that.

My take on projects for friends is that they cover any actual costs firstly. After that, if it’s simple then I’ll do it as a favour to be paid on sometime. If it’s complex or ongoing then I quote on it and let them get other quotes and choose. If it starts simple and gets complex then we discuss it at that point.

Ah yes, the look of “You shall die for displeasing your mistress/master” that all Burmese have. Bloody royalty the lot of them! (can you tell I’m cranky at being woken up at 5am by a cat who is “starving” because he is on a diet?!?!?)

gypsyamberMay 30, 2007 - 5:23 am

How does next Monday or Thursday night, dinner at our place sound? Any allergies/dislikes/other dietry reqs?

Yes, do twist Hil’s arm, if she’s not there already!

Umm…I’m guessing commercial is a website you sell from and display just shows your stuff? I think display at this point of time, but with view of becoming commercial 6-12mths down the track.

gypsyamberMay 30, 2007 - 5:26 am

I’ve just been holding off buying the domain until I organised website and hosting stuff!

Naturally actual costs would be covered immediately wiht view of paying off whatever is quoted.

But this should all be discussed next week in person 🙂

gypsyamberMay 30, 2007 - 5:29 am

*laughs* oh yes. Ophelia gave Rafe some true death stares when he dared to come and hug me – never mind that it was *me* who chose to put her down for said hugs!

Ophelia has the opposite problem – I’m the one waking her at 5:30. Judging from her vocalisation this morning, I think she’d much rather I stay in bed until…well forever really, getting up only to feed her!

paradigmshiftyMay 30, 2007 - 6:04 am

I shall confer with the Hil-beast and get back to you on the best day.

It may be possible to combine it with bath day at St Kilda if all works out.
