Baby Diary – Places I never thought I would breastfeed

There is heaps to tell – Zachary Royce entered our world and turned it completely around 10:58am Monday April 11, 2011. The 9 days since then has been a journey which nothing could ever have prepared us for.

But before I go into that, in case I only have time for a short post before breast duties call me, one of the amusing incidents of this past week and a bit.

A few days ago I had a very upset stomach, and happened to need to go to the toilet urgently, whilst breastfeeding. Breastfeeding has presented a challenging occupation, so I was loathe to take Zac off the breast but also couldn’t hold on. This is where parents gain whole new intimacies never explored earlier!

Sharing my dilemma with Rafe, he came into the bathroom with me to pull down my pants (as I still need 2 hands for feeding) and I answered both calls of nature. I was then stuck on the toilet, not the most amenable place for feeding, for the next 30 minutes whilst Zac finished feeding. It may be alright for Rafe to wipe our son’s pooey bottom, but even we still have limits for this new-found parental intimacy!

I had heard that once you have children, privacy is a thing of the past – I just hadn’t expected it to kick in a mere week into things.

Such a beautiful child – thank you for sharing your joy and the humour that comes with parenting with us and wish you much happiness and lots of sleep when you can (cat napping works I believe)

Yep, welcome to the world of no privacy. I have seldom gone to the bathroom with the door closed ( in my own home) for the past two years, because out of sight leads to screams or tears. At other people’s places it usually means taking one or more children with me. And though I’ve never done the feeding on the loo thing myself, I’ve heard about it often enough, to know that you are not alone!

Ps. For me the most amusing place was the carpark at Bunnings. He just wouldn’t wait. People walkign past my car would casually look to see why i was sitting in the back seat, and then scurry on.
