The third years graduate soon

and today is my last day at Nishiwaki before they do. I just said good-bye to my favourite student. 🙁 It seems like yesterday that she approached my desk, trying desperately to translate Gosurori to English. Fortunately I’d already encountered the katakanaised ‘Gothic Lolita’ and from there our conversations began. She was fascinated to learn about goth fashion and trends in Australia, and in turn brought in many magazines and photos of Japanese styles for me.
She will apply to a public high school and enter the fashion design stream. I think she would make a great designer.
I have her contact details – indeed she has already been writing me when I’m not at this school – but it will be sad to come back and not see her here again.

さびしいね!

I feel your pain! It’s so nice to discover kids like that at your schools and so when it comes time for them to leave, you can’t help but be a little upset (on the inside, like the Japanese!). Fight-o! Fight-o! Life goes on, eh?!
