one day

I will live somewhere with little to no pollution. My hands have black ingrained in the fine lines and it won’t go away no matter how many times I wash them. Not particularly noticeable to anyone other than me, but still. Yesterday I didn’t ride to work because it looked like rain – not that I’m a wuss or anything, just that my camera and Custard are somewhat allergic to water. Silly me. Those weren’t rain clouds, that was smog! It’s not usually this bad here, part of why I like Wakayama is that I get to see the sun, and even some stars occasionally.

On the up, I bought a new bike on Friday. No more ちゃりんこ for me, nosir indeed. It’s big – it fits my legs! It has 21 gears, let me run that by you one more time.. 21 whole gears. My knee thinks it’s died and gone to heaven, or at least a pitstop on the way. The brakes work! I nearly sent myself flying over the handlebars multiple times on the first day, but they work. I’m so excited I might just post piccies of the old and the new (can’t fully appreciate the new without the comparison)

Also in the process of ordering the Canon EOS 20D – my, I :am: feeling spendy this week! Wish me easy ordering, quick delivery and good solution for the D30.

And I awoke up to a poem waiting for me in my inbox. With a start to the day like that, how could it be anything but a :good day:

ooooh I’m sooooo jealous. I wish I could afford (and justify buying) a 20D.

I can’t wait to buy a real bike. Living without a car has always been a dream of mine and come August or so, it might just come true! 21 gears are awesome, I’m jealous!

Smog? Yuck! Next time we see you, you’ll be some shambling smog monster dripping grease and exhaling carbon monoxide! You’ll need a hefty course of detox…

Good luck with all your spendiness!

gypsyamberApril 27, 2005 - 2:57 am

yes…I am very lucky…I can afford it (though planned trip to USA now in limbo. meh. camera more exciting) and I now have the justification. I haven’t been happy with the lowlight focusing capacity of the D30, nor by the discovery that there is no B&W mode nor options for colour filters – but these are just reasons why I want newer. However now it will now not be just for practise and I need higher quality to make the most of current opportunities. I had all the reasoning before…just needed that justification!

It is heavenly. I miss my car and driving, but I quite like that my lifestyle here does not require it.

gypsyamberApril 27, 2005 - 3:04 am

Eeeewww… I really hope not. I don’t wanna have to go through detox just so peeps can hug me *lip trembles at thought* Beware the CO2 Amber!

Thank-you – currently waiting on email with final price and bank details for money transfer, and to talk with Trina to check if she wants the D30 back, or if I should go ahead and advertise it….

Neither things look like miraculously happening this arvo, so have printed out map to immigration office to get VISA and re-entry permit changed across to new passport. An industrious day I plan!

I know I could just look it up, but what’s the D30? How much are you hoping to get for it if you sell it? Any lenses in with the deal?

gypsyamberApril 27, 2005 - 6:27 am

D30 is the first Canon digital slr, brought out 4 years ago. 3.2 MP

Haven’t decided how much to sell it for yet – if Trina doesn’t want it back, I’m buying it for 5man, no lens. I checked with some camera stores here and that’s about what I’d pay for it from them too.

u interested?

nottatumorApril 27, 2005 - 6:38 am

sorry, don’t understand … you’re selling it for 5 man? That’s probably more money that I’m prepared to part with right now, esp with no lenses (I don’t have any canon eqp). But I have been thinking about a digi SLR lately!

gypsyamberApril 27, 2005 - 7:40 am

No, haven’t decided what to sell it for yet.

Haven’t paid Trina either which is where the iffy bit comes in. I’m checking first that she hasn’t missed it and therefore would like it back, then I’ll pay her and our agreed price for me was 5man, body only.

far as I can tell, that’s close to the lowest a digi slr will go for (unless you go through e-bay, there’s some good deals)….but there are some fixed lens digitals out there which are pretty impressive…all depends what you’re after.
