I’m OUTA here!

No more Zoo! Do da doo da!!!

Yup, I’m free of that place, at least til 3rd term. Only two more rotations to go and I’m very seriously going to see how much of my sick leave and annual leave I can keep till my last round there! I would be perfectly happy to go just for classes with Tomo and not the rest of the time! Maybe for Ms Ohashi as well – she tries really hard and makes such comprehensive teaching plans.

Had a very long meeting with Rachel and Hamish’s father, Ms Ohashi and Ms Tombana – Rachel and Hamish are the two New Zealand students who are new to Kinokawa. I was there to translate for them. All good until I almost completely embarassed myself by bursting into tears. Rachel is diabetic, and Ms Ohashi wanted to know how she was going with it, being in a different country and all. Andy explained the diabetes in detail to them and I almost didn’t cope. While he was explaining how important blood sugar levels are, my mind was going through what happens to the body if there is too much or too little insulin. *sigh* Apparently you still don’t have to scratch deep to affect me.

Anyway, what has been happening at The Zoo this week?
On Wednesday five of our second year students, Yutaro and four of his cronies, were almost caught vandalising vending machines at a pachinko parlour at City 123 – the small shopping centre near my home. We’re all sure they did it, but the police didn’t catch them actually in the act. So they backargued the police and yelled at them (always a wise move) telling them there was no evidence that they had done it and as such the police could do nothing. Unfortunately very true, but no police officer wants to hear that from a smart-mouthed, aggressive, impossible 14 yr old boy.

Today two first year students, a guy (whose name I already know – never a good sign) and a girl, were hauled in to explain why they were late for school and why they hadn’t gone to class. Conversation between the girl and homeroom teacher as follows:
T: What time did you get to school today?
S: At the end of first period.
T: So why weren’t you in class during second period?
S: We had English then and I don’t understand it. (Could be because she ALWAYS talks and NEVER listens…just maybe. Oh yeah, I’m sure I’ll know her name by the end of next round too)
T: You can’t just not go to class because you don’t understand it. Going to class is not an option. You do understand that, don’t you. You can’t skip class just because you don’t understand the subject. So where were you?
S:(blithely) Oh, hanging around over there (gestures in the direction of the bike shed – explains why I saw the VP patroling around the bike shed during second period)

The exchange went on for some time more, with a lot of lecturing, and the girl just shifting on her feet, smiling, laughing and flicking her hair. She did get a slightly more attentive expression when the VP started in on her, but still, I could see none of it was making an impression. As for Doi (the boy) well, some days it seems he’s in the staffroom getting into trouble between every period! Another Yutaro in the making. Yutaro was just the same last year.

This morning there was some long announcement regarding the second years. Unfortunately I couldn’t understand it. I will ask Tomo about it tonight.

Yay! No more Zoo!!! I am so so so so so happy and relieved to have finished this round there!!
Take me back to the schools where the students who ignore us, do so quietly and peacefully!
