The weekend that was

A much more low key weekend than previously.

Friday: Happily left chaotic room behind (attempts at tidying and organising had resulted in massive chaos sprawl) to go with teknohippi and zen_cat to gadge‘s birthday dinner and then on to Spiderman 3. I have been looking forward to Spiderman 3 since first seeing the previews in Japanese cinemas (!!!). Unfortunately, it did not live up to the excitement. I still got involved and cringed and laughed and everything but I didn’t come out of it feeling like I really wanted to watch it again. It wasn’t the same high as the first one. Actually, I think all the super hero movies recently seem to be missing something. I used to adore all the movies based on comic books and always try and see them on the big screen, but the last few I’ve seen haven’t captivated me as much. I really hope this will not happen with the new Pirates movie coming out. I want to love the third as well!

Saturday: Sleep-in. yay. Then yummy brekky with zen_cat at Kaleidoscope – the first place I’ve been to which doesn’t raise eyebrows or argue with me about the validity of making scrambled eggs sans milk, or even *shock, horror* with soy milk insted of cow’s milk. TV shopping where the attitude at KMart left me stunned. They flat out could not and would not plug in the sound on the TV we were looking at. What the? That’s right – we expect you to part with your money wihout actually knowing what it is you buy” My question is, who *does* buy something big like that without knowing the quality? Oh wait, no actually I did used to know someone who would have done just that. So, the person whose mantra is “disposable income” is the person KMart is hoping to sell to! *shakes head* I am still both appreciative in an agast way, bemused, and shocked at the sales assistant’s attitude and at the company policy which makes it so.

PM was work – very quiet in the labs. Anna came in and brought lunch so we had a little picnic.
Then home to more yummy food, cooked by zen_cat. Mmmmm….a very good food day. However I think I’m in-between now with my metabolism/appetite – halfway between being a ravenous carnivore and my normal self. Given my slight porking up recently, I suspect I need to start going back to regular Amber-size meals now.

After calling in home to briefly torture Ophelia (read: give her her medication, and complete her poo diary – man, being a mum rocks sometimes!) it was back to cozy up on the couch and finally watch Children of Men – a film zen_cat‘s been wanting to show me for some weeks now. It was as good as I’d heard, plus had the bonus of not being nearly as depressing as I expected. I didn’t even need a pick-me-up light film afterwards *grins*

Sunday: I believe there was a tickle fight, maybe. They seem to becoming a regular occurence. Must be the influence of Adam and Fi 😉 Brekky where luckily zen_cat had thoughtfully supplied some sheep’s milk yoghurt, ‘cos the goat’s milk yoghurt I brought was horrible, I thought anyway. Blegh. A couple more episodes of Scrubs – I am slowly getting hooked. Then a walk around the park – I love that I can actually even contemplate, let alone do a walk around a park now. My legs are so amazing!

I went swimming in the early afternoon – managed 20 laps and used my legs for all of them. Usually it’s 16 laps but my knee stops working after the first 6.

Then late afternoon Mum arrived and we went to see Varekai – with the Tapis Rouge tickets. Wow! There was a tent all set up specially for tapis rouge with gorgeous interior. Nibblies, champagnes and wine flowing freely – not too freely ‘cos I was driving. Our seats were fantastic – it definitely is a very different perspective from the front rather than the very edge of the side where we were last time. And the show itself was completely captivating and adrenaline pumping. Also a very different ambience and style to Allegria. I didn’t expect it to be so different. Much lighter and happier. I still love Allegria. This has simply given me even more appreciation for what Cirque du Soleil achieve. One day, I want to see their show Zumanity – it’s unfortunately one of the permanant shows in Las Vegas, rather than a touring one. Apparently next year Dralion will be coming to Melbourne. So going!

Mum also spotted and bought me one of their gorgeous masks – seems I might be starting a collection! Her birthday present to me two years ago was a cirque du soleil mask, which prompted the masked party that year! This one is simpler and one which I will wear out to clubs and such without fear of losing feathers and crumpling other bits.

Took Mum to Brunetti’s for supper where zen_cat joined us and italian hot chocolate was consumed whilst we marveled over all the aspects of the show and did not do it nearly justice enough in our descriptions to zen_cat. A fantastic mother’s day where I’m sure I ended up just as, if not more, spoilt!

Yesterday I woke up with a cold. And so the week begins.

I read what’s going in your life with interest. It’s such a good way to keep in touch (says she who hasn’t posted or emailed anything to anyone about her really interesting and going well life…).

And it is pretty much my main way of staying in touch with people right now – which is mean to all the non-lj friends. I keep baulking on an email update cos I need to update the mailing list before doing so!

I figure that this is probably interestign for OS friends, but not so much for the friends who make up part of the posts!
