Not a good start to the day

After very little sleep – typhoon finally quieted down a little around 3:30ish ( thank-you so much whitmans_child for the phone company 🙂 – I wake to a newly developed UTI (OUCH – I thought that was s’posed to happen after lots n lots of sex. Feeling ripped off here!) and discover I’m not on the electoral roll. Huh, what?!? How did that happen? Now, not only have to arange postal vote or going to consulate, but have to arrange enrollment as well, to be received back home by Tuesday. Thank heaven I know some Aussies here who should be able to witness my form. Off to net cafe now to print it out. Not how I’d planned to spend the day.

They went through the electoral rolls just before the state election a couple of years ago and took everyone off who had moved and not updated address

I found this out when i went to vote

If you are overseas when the election is on, you don’t have to vote… Not that I’m saying you shouldn’t, just that you don’t have to.

Aahh..thank-you. That would be why..I don’t think I ever updated to the coburg address, and of course my glenlyon rd address no longer exists..not as a house anyways. Have printed off enrollment form and am about to e-mail the aussies I know here to see if they are elligible to enrol, and hence can witness mine for me.
The very helpful (no sarcasm here – she really was) lady on the AEC phones advised me that I don’t have to vote as I’m overseas. But I want to, dammit!

Yes, that is noce to know, but I really want my say!

understandable, see most recent post. i was upset at missing out last state election. that said I was also upset at the fact they refused to provide voting facilities at earthcore (10,000 ppl event)
as the election clashed. But will happily provide voting facilities at large sporting events. Who cares if hippys and ravers dont vote hey?

although the green were running a bus from the earthcore site into the nearest local town 🙂

Re: windy windy weather

It hit pretty bad – worse so far this year. I heard some people died in this one, though I suspect that would be further south in the prefecture. Lovely sunny day today though!

Re: windy windy weather

Oh, i’ve been meaning to e-mail you…my Kyoto sister is in Melbourne right now, until Sep 7 I think – I am so so so upset I’m not there as well right now. But I was wondering if you had some time if you’d mind hooking up with her for an afternoon, maybe go to the zoo or for coffee and cake or something. I’m not sure what her english level is like – she had basic english when she left last year and she’s just spent the last year in Australia so I imagine it’s improved.
Anyway I’m gonna call her and see how she’s doing, and if you’d be up for it I’ll mention it to her and pass her number to you. If not, that’s cool too….I think she’s with friends. I’m just so disappointed she’s there and I’m not, for so long I’ve wanted her to come to Melbourne so I could show her around. Ah well, that’s life huh!
