Catch up

My news in brief….otherwise known as rejoining the living, although more regular posts/emails still not guaranteed 😉

* I quit my job.

* Since quitting, I have realised how much stress has been ruling my life this year, and how much of a hermit I have become.

* I am setting up my own business – as well as all the photography skills I wish to acquire, I now have a whole set of business skills to learn.

* My research has shown that the best workspace to do colour manipulation in is a grey workspace. This has led to….

* Starting house renovations. This will be a slow process. The study was meant to take a week…this is the end of week three. So far, we have an undercoat on the walls, half the ceiling painted and a very sexy, stripped wood window frame and sill…it better be sexy for all the work it’s had done!

* Hallway is next, but not even thinking about it until after the honeymoon. zen_cat got me to accept the idea of putting our books into the bookcases (*when* they arrive) higglety-pigglety and plan on putting them in order once the hallway has been painted.

* Oh and still planning a wedding. Just seven weeks to go. *gulp*

* zen_cat and I started Bikram Yoga a couple of months ago. We did a 30 day challenge…a very intense, time-consuming exercise but well worth it. However as W-Day approaches and we have more stuff to do, we are looking at focusing on short intense bursts of exercise, such as running again.

* Still haven’t worked out how to balance work with all the projects I want to do, with keeping active and healthy, with chill time, with staying in touch with people. I am discovering a certain awe for people who manage all this. Until I work it out, it is my social life which continues to suffer. If I don’t keep up with the rest, I’m too stressed to enjoy the friends. Kind of a catch-22.

* I am eager to organise a new routine which will balance these aspects more successfully, however have accepted that a new routine has no chance until life returns to normal After Honeymoon.

* Oh, and have I mentioned KITTENS!!!!!!!! Two, wonderfully mischievous, adorable kittens who are growing SO fast and showing us more of their personalities each day. Jaipurr is now nicknamed SnuggleBug and Shakti is nicknamed Purrbot. (It does amuse me that it takes two kittens to fulfill what I had with Ophelia) When we first got them, they made me miss Ophelia more because they weren’t very snuggly or affectionate. However in the last few weeks, they have becoming more snuggable and I find myself comparing them to Ophelia less and less.

So that’s where life is at for me at the moment. I scroll through lj sometimes but seem to have missed a lot of major things in people’s lives this year. Although I’m obviously online now, I try to minimise my time online because I get suckered in to wasting too much time. Indeed, now I am off to finish puttying the window and get more paint to finish the ceiling.

Love to all friends, who I do still remember 😉

Hooray! Glad to hear all the good news. Best of luck with everything.

I am unemployed, single, and relocating from Vancouver to Toronto. That’s about all that’s new. 😉

Hey Darling – When is a good time to pop round and measure your books….

kowariAugust 21, 2008 - 11:32 pm

HEY!
I have a wedding book for you to look at, if you were still vaguely interested in Tom and me doing any kind of photography (if you dont have anyone lined up)

WE HAVE A PORTFOLIO!!! WHEE!

leminkainenAugust 22, 2008 - 12:32 pm

Sounds hectic!

As someone who moved house recently, I can say that getting books onto shelves any-which-way a)gets boxes empty and floorspace cleared, b)gets them out there where you can see them to arrange them when you finally find the time and c)means you have a chance of finding things.

I still need to see these fuzzy kittens (if I procrastinate too long, they will grow to giant proportions and crush London).

I too back Rafe in the just shoving the books in the bookcase option, we did that too (although I did take the very small amount of extra time to put them in some sort of height order per shelf so I can live with it despite dutch fiction and english non fiction, graphic novels, blockbusters and saxophone text books all being mixed together, this approach has worked for me quite well).

It was so lovely to see you (several times!) and meed Rafe – it makes me happy just thinking about the two of you.

I am glad that we got to meet the kittens as kittens because next time (prob. 2010) they will definitely be cats (although I really hope they won’t be in prison due to London crushage).

Best of relaxing thoughts for the Wedding preparations and enjoying thoughts for the day itself and honeymoon afterwards. So next time, not only will the kittens be cats, you’ll be a married woman! (and you never know, maybe I’ll have offspring…)

Sending lots of love,

Christina (and Niels although he’s not here, he is always willing to send you love 🙂

Fantastic! We do have a photographer lined up – we decided to go with a non-friend professional so that our friends can relax and enjoy the day 😉 But, i would love to see the portfolio anyway.

kowariAugust 25, 2008 - 4:33 am

Fair enough, but I wanna show it to you anyway.
I am rather proud of it.

gypsyamberAugust 25, 2008 - 5:53 am

And I wanna see it! Very much so 🙂

One of them already is a mini-panther. I know that you start work hideously early – does that mean you finish early too? If you feel like it, you can come over for tea and kittens on your way home one night…just let me know when suits.

Alternatively, if you’re coming to the lingerie party next Tuesday, feel free to come straight from work and have kitten time first. I will happily show off the *all fingers crossed* finished study as well!

leminkainenAugust 30, 2008 - 7:26 am

Coming over early for pre lingerie kittens sounds like a good plan!

I do indeed finish early – generally at 3:30, or sometimes 4 depending on chaos and madness levels at my work. I generally don’t get to anywhere north of the CBD before 4:30-5pm.
