Help!!!

The pidgeons were all very cute when they first nested, but little did I know that once one nested, it would keep coming back to the same nest, as would all its offspring. My balcony now belongs to the pidgeons. I’ve tried throwing out their nest, pouring alcohol all around, pouring bathroom cleaner all around, and throwing water on them but to no avail. They keep on coming. Any advice on a non-harmful way I can get rid of them – apart from netting cos I have no idea how to attach netting to my balcony? *tearing hair out*

Rats with wings

You could tape a slinky from one end of the ledge to the other, that would probably do it.

Or alternately a couple of mousetraps should do the trick. 😉

Re: Rats with wings

Ooh..I like both ideas!

I’ve just spent a couple of hours totally cleaning down the entire verandah, throwing out nest, eggs (*guilt attack*), copious amounts of pidgeon poop (with lots of icky bugs wriggling around), cleaning underneath washing machine, relocating the baby I thought had flown away yesterday (it was hiding under washing machine) and then hanging up shiny cds and magnetic thingys designed to deter pidgeons.
Oh, and after cleaning, put peroxide over old nest area.

If they come back, shall try slinky and mouse traps too!!!

buy a cat! 🙂

umm… we hang lots of dead cd’s in our garden on the theory that the flashy reflecting things detract the the birds. (They hang on string and blow around in the wind catching the light) It’s kind of pretty, I’m not sure how successful it is, the kittens spend a fair bit of time chasing flashing reflections around the garden, but i think they have brought home less birds as a result and my veg garden didn’t suffer.

Anything shiny might work

Mm…here’s hoping. Have strung up some cds on my washing line, and magnetic thingys meant to keep pidgeons away. They are still hovering around but haven’t seen any where there nest was. Fingers crossed it’s that way when I get home tonight!
