Sick :-(

I somehow suspect that spending all morning with hyperactive grade threes, talking to them and playing games with them does not help the getting well process. Indeed, it could be said to hinder, nay, force backwards said process.
On the bright side, Tracy advised me that tonsillitis is not contagious because it is a bacteria illness not a virus. I do love having a best friend who knows so much useful stuff.
Though it would give me a level of satisfaction to think of giving this ickiness to, oh say, the vice-principal of the E.S who has the most excessivly polite Japanese I’ve had the misfortune to hear in a loooong time (part of why I prefer living here to Kyoto is the lack of politeness)
She arrives 7 min early to pick me up when I was trying to finish a lesson plan so I wouldn’t have to go back after the E.S visit. “もうしわけありませんが。。。” (I’m so terribly sorry, it cannot possibly be helped, can you please forgive my ineptitude – or equally grovelling terms of sorry) But it _can_ be helped. You _could_ arrive at the time _you_ specified. I see no reason for you to arrive earlier than the time _you_ chose to pick me up.
Same phrase got toted out umpteen times today regarding me being sick yet still visiting the E.S.. If you really were that sorry and really did feel that bad, you would send me home. So don’t go giving me that bullshit, pacifying, meaningless polite japanese schlock.
Believe me, she got nothing back in politeness. Oh, I can give back almost as good as I get when it comes to polite waffle, but not when I’m sick, not when I just want to do my job and get back to bed asap.

Totally different from last night, when I had to give my speech. I do believe the same phrase was even used, but it was meant and they were genuinely worried about me and genuinely grateful that I had still gone and given the speech. I do love Nishiwaki JHS SO much. Just walking into the staffroom last night felt like I was back at my workplace, rather than the feeling of being a visitor I get at the other schools. *sigh* I’ll be back there in January…

In the meantime, I think tonight is reserved for a small bout of feeling sorry for myself, followed by the rewatching of something which I’ve taken far to long to rewatch – The Blues Brothers – then maybe I’ll take my shiny new laptop to bed and watch a dvd (it has the best screen!!! And one day soon, I’ll know how to use it properly. Unfortunately this is not me joking. Just ask Andrew and Nat!!!)

Actually, tonsilitis is quite contagious through contact with saliva or nasal.. uh.. discharge. (Trying not to use the word snot). So, if you blew your nose on a tissue and didn’t wash your hands for example, or shared a drink with someone. Treat it with the same level of disease control as you would a cold (which is a virus).

Not all colds are virus’. The vast majority of them are bacterial. Which is why antibiotics help.

But, yeah, what Tom said. Definately contageous.
