Jottings – Feb 6-16 2012

I’ve learnt how to include photos! They are just from my phone, and I am not proficient at editing them in phone so they are not the best quality. They are just simple snapshots – my “polaroids”!

EDIT: Sorry – I should have put it all behind a cut!! I was forgetting my LJ Blog ettiquette!

======================

9:22 PM Zac, tonight in the bath you refused to sit, instead you stood and splashed water madly! Clearly your bath experimentations continue.

You had orientation at daycare today – it was hard for both of us. You didn’t understand why I was there but someone else was looking after you. I hope that next week will be easier for you if I am not obviously there.
I can see lots of positives – new people to interact with, lots of different toys and activities for you, but it broke my heart seeing you looking a little lost and overwhelmed at times. I wish someone, maybe future you, could say to me “Yes, it will be great for him” or “No, don’t do it, it won’t be worth it”.

7:22 AM

Very proud of yourself using the spoon!

10:11 AM Zac: Not even ten months old and already you enjoy wrestling! Yesterday it was the teddy, today it was me. I got my first blood nose ever from our wrestling session – you looked so worried. Clearly some things must be instinctual; the blood really disturbed you, even when I was reassuring you that it was all okay. I really was okay, just surprised. I love rolling about with you, having you use my face and my head to pull yourself up on, having you climb over me. It is so much fun!

6:47 PM Zac: When we put you down tonight, you were so happy to be in your cot. We could hear you squeeing to your teddies and the animals on the wall. Once the excitement wore off, you weren’t as delighted to be in your cot, but still only complained for a few minutes.

6:49 PM Zac: you are so mobile these days, alternating between crawling, commando crawling and a funny crawl-knee-bum shuffle. I love hearing you approaching wherever I am – I can hear the sound of your knees and hands on the carpet and the sound of your excited breathing, almost a pant! I love seeing your smiling face peak around a corner at me with your “Aha! I found you!” expression. You make such little things so joyful.

I'm coming, I'm coming!!

There you are, Mummy

The kitty cat went in here, right?!

6:58 PM Zac: everything is push-pull, in-out with you at the moment. You push-pull the pram, the high chair, the clothes drying rack, anything that you can move back and forwards. You also place things in a box, out of a box; under your bouncer, not under your bouncer; out the cat flap…. And then you cry because you can’t retrieve the object back!
 A couple of nights ago the game extended to your bath time. You put the bath thermometer in my mouth, and took it out. In my mouth, and out. In, out, in, out. You thought this game was hilarious, though you haven’t played it since.

9:33 AM Zac: I’m finding daycare really hard – are you? I think you are. Last week it took 3 days after your morning at daycare for you to settle back to your happy independent self. Is it worth me going back to work? I really don’t know.

9:36 AM Killing time, sitting by Zac as he sleeps at daycare. He’s taken 30 minutes to get to sleep, instead of the usual 5, due to all the noise, mostly crying. He’s also not in a deep sleep yet, so here I sit.

I’ve started running again. I thought that after pregnancy and all my pelvis issues that I would be back to square one, having to spend the next six months building up again. I have been extremely pleasantly surprised to discover that my basic running fitness is still there. First run I managed a half lap of Princes Park, second attempt was a bust but third attempt I got all the way around! I’m not breaking any speed records but I am fairly reliably able to do a full lap; not only that but it is without all the mental insistence of “You gave to stop. You’re damaging your knee. You can’t breathe. You must stop. You must stop. Stop dammit or your gonna diiieeee!!!!” yes, my mental process used to be exactly like that!. It’s nice not having such an internal battle now.

9:57 AM Playing in the front yard last Friday morning. You love being outdoors so much!

Rock, what is the secret of the universe?

Hi, Mummy's iPhone!!!

PS. Our front yard clearly has some kind of special otherworld light going on. You do not usually have such a blue tinge!

9:59 AM We found our wedding candles! Haven’t seen them since the day we got married. I wonder what other treasures will be found as Rafe’s parents pack up their property. Very sad to see Ballara go, and that Zac will have no memory of it, but happy for Rafe’s parents to move somewhere with vastly less upkeep.

Representing Rafe, myself and the new family created by our union.

10:06 AM Zac: you started back at Bop-a-long Baby last Thursday and received a set of maracas. You had great fun playing with them and the mirror…

Showing your dancing skills.

Oh, Hai!

you can have this one...

10:09 AM Zac: You’ve worked out the toy from Nana and Papa. A few days ago you sat there with two balls, putting them in one at a time. It is exciting seeing you develop new skills. One day a toy is too difficult, then the next day you’ve mastered it – at least it feels that quick sometimes!

The ball goes in...and music follows!

12:00 PM Zac: you are fascinated by reflections, yours in particular! In mirrors, windows and even ovens, a reflection always warrants a pause on what you are doing so that you can properly squee and smile at it.

Hey look! I'm in the oven, Mum!

12:00 PM Zac: you love Grandma’s visits each week. Today you practised standing, standing and some more standing with Grandma

Look at me, look at me! I'm totally standing!

==========================

7:44 AM Zac: banana is winning for brekky this morning. (note your baby bags – last night you awoke every hour)

Banana is good - yummy, soft and easily eaten

8:42 AM Zac: You haven’t mastered standing yet you are trying to walk! You can now pull yourself up on me (when I lie down) and once up, you try to walk!

8:51 AM Zac: I love how you make up games for yourself. Often I’ll see some kind of toy and think “Zac would have fun with that”, then you’ll use objects around the house to do the same activity! It’s great! Case in point: I’ve been thinking you’d enjoy a toy that involves rolling balls, usually down an incline of some sort. This morning in the garden you started placing a ball on the cross bar of our gate and rolling it back and forth. I don’t even have to think of how to do these activities using stuff at home; you’re already way ahead of me!!!

What can I do with a ball and a gate?

If I put it up here like this....

I can roll it...

...back and forth like this!

Oh, I didn't see you there! I'm not doing anything, really.

9:12 AM

Giant cat meets puny horse

Uber rooster oversees tiny farmer

Little lamb is getting henpecked

Zac: I wanted to get the animals at least roughly accurate in relational sizing however your grandma suggested that you would enjoy the smaller toys which fit in you hand. I agreed with that logic, so here is your very first woefully inaccurate representation of a farm! (Grandma also gave you a pig, a cow, another farmer, and dogs will be added soon)

9:27 AM

Serious leaf contemplation

=========================

12:00 PM Zac: your first taste of Japanese food today: soba noodles. You definitely approved! You thought the nori was a bit of a strange texture but you nommed it all the same.

Lunch ended as any meal where I actually give you the plate!

Seaweed, you say.....

These noodles are acceptable

Are you sure there's no food on the other side? Let me just check...

Huh. Now all my food is gone.

=======================

9:18 AM Zac: you made your way off the garden path into the garden this morning. You weren’t too sure about the dirt; it was quite cold and damp from all the rain yesterday. The blurred photos are the best representation of you right now – you are a blur of activity all the time!

Hello. There is a lot of dirt beside this hedge.

Ooh look! Something I must investigate!

Dry tiles!

On the move.

Just what was that, that I was playing in?
