Communication

Zac is communicating with us more and more. This week, we realized that he’s started pointing at things and asking “What’s that?”. I say we realised, not that he started, because I suspect he may gave started before this week, but we only really picked up on his question this week. We’re not sure where he got it from, as neither of us have used that expression a huge amount around him. As soon as he started pointing at things, I started telling him what they were, but that’s different from specifically asking him “What’s that” and then giving him the answer.
We suspect that he has learned the expression from his grandma (Rafe’s mum). She spends time with him each week and will focus on one or two things with him consistently. Whenever she reads to him, she constantly asks about the pictures in the book. It is so lovely that he has that time with her every week and that he gets the input from someone else, someone more experienced in the ways of child rearing than his parents!
The “What’s that” phase became very obvious to us Thursday morning; Zac was sitting on Rafe’s lap, pointing at things on the bookcase, asking what it was, listening to the answer, considering, then moving onto the next thing. So incredible watching him grow and seeing how much he wants to learn.
