Physio Update

The physio says I’m doing much better than he would have expected, given the restrictions on my hamstring usage. Whoot!

The quad is building up, the swelling continues to go down and my knee is starting to look like a knee, with all the knobbly bits in the right places! I am now on step exercises – stepping on and off a phone book. Today I step once, tomorrow twice and so on. This really does amuse me; “You can do one step today, two steps tomorrow” Not gonna be running up and down the stairs by the weekend but it is a start, no matter how small it seems.

Next week we may even start some work on my hamstrings – the physio is going to recheck the surgeon’s letter, but I think it’ll be close enough *grin*

The sad is probably not starting tai chi for up to three months. *pout* I was hoping I could start once I was allowed to use my hamstring but the physio says we’ll need to build *them* up next and get them used to working again before I start. General rule of thumb is that the amount of time a muscle or tendon has been out of action is the amount of time I can expect it to take to get back to normal.

But I have step exercises now! *bounce* And maybe in two weeks time I’ll be able to start using the step machine as well as the bike and walking machine at the gym.

*grin*

Good news from the physio. It might feel a little strange doing one step on a phonebook though. I guess it’ll be a short workout session 🙂

There’s no rush with the tai chi, though if you’d like, I can start showing you some of the upper body side of it, since that takes a while to get. That will mostly use your waist, and it’s probably what you’d be learning in class to begin with anyway.

It does feel very strange – and if it hurts I have to stop immediately. Really, it doesn’t seem like there’d be enough to for it to hurt! Still, added on to the rest I’m meant to be doing twice a day – which I haven’t been so much recently, between using the gym and pool and having much funner things to do ;-), it is adding up to a decent exercise session. He also wants me to start using weights with my leg lifts – starting with 250g. *shakes head* All these super small figures just crack me up. If I’m starting something I want to jump full in. My lesson of the year I believe is patience and learning to ask for help.

I’d love to start learning some of the upper body stuff though 🙂

Yay for improvements, however small. 🙂

Congratulations m’dear! You’ll be leaping over tall buildings before you know it 🙂

When you get around to starting tai chi, I’d love it if you’d let me know.

I’ve been wanting to get back into it, and I much prefer doing it socially.

Brilliant – now that is much more like what you want to hear at a checkup. I’m so pleased for you.
