Nursery

Whilst I have been otherwise occupied and not thinking so much about baby stuff, Rafe was ensuring that things were still getting down towards being ready for Zac’s arrival. The big job being painting the nursery, done over multiple evenings plus a day with Jed (while Sue and I went and ordered a pram and car seat – also very important!)

The kittens supervised every step of the way, occasionally leaping to grapple Rafe around the waist when he was paying the paintbrush too much attention! Amazingly Shakti only got a small amount of paint on her and Jai, none at all. I must learn these non-paint wearing skills. I walked in to the room for all of 2 minutes, carefully staying away from all walls and doors and still managed to get some paint on my jeans.

The nursery is suitably bright now and is slowly coming together. My first bit of nesting in the nursery was to get Zac’s bookcase ready, of course!

Nursery – bigger picture. The pale drawers are from my childhood dresser and will be stained walnut to match the rest of our furniture. Once the freezer (out of sight in this photo) and the single bed have been removed, there will be room for the bigger bookcase which is also from my childhood room. The single bed will stay for a while though as this will be my bed after Zac is born. Absolute logistics not worked out and everything flexible to what actually works, but the theory is that if I move into the nursery, we don’t have to lock the cats out of their room (our room), undo all the effort we went to to encourage the cats to sleep with us, and hopefully at least one of us can get some solid nights’ sleep during the week. The idea of the both of us being severely sleep-dep’d just sounds bad, bad, bad!

I love love love the cot, and it will turn into a toddler bed and then into a proper single bed, so hopefully Zac will like it too because he’s going to have it for a loooong time!

Most recently I made up the bassinet. Lucky and Lamby (yeah, caught me! I haven’t actually thought of a name for him!) are waiting to welcome Zac 🙂

Looks fantastic! Go Rafe (plus helpers)! It’s so exciting that Zac will be there by the time I next come to visit in July, hopefully you will have had enough sleep to be able to fit in a visit from a Dutch blow in 🙂 Thinking about you guys lots, very excited about the impeding family.

Oh and I think Lamby is a perfectly legitimate name (this coming from the chick who had Mousey, Doggy, Sealy and Pink Tedda…)

Saw some good advice that kate gave to penny. Arrange some one to cat sit while you are in the hospital doing the baby having, that way you and rafe can concentrate on the baby newness and rafe does not have to worry about having to feed the kitties as well. Its a little thing, but makes a whole pile of sense, reassurance of knowing the kitties are being looked afterand fed without having to worrry about them.

Ooh, I recognise those Enid Blyton books on the top shelf there 🙂

We’ll be very excited to introduce you to Zac and visits will be most welcome 🙂
I’m glad you think Lamby is perfectly acceptable as a name!

I was so excited to find my childhood books at my Mum’s house. I hadn’t been able to find them in years and years and mourned their loss greatly. I’m so hapy to be able to pass them down to our children now.

All sorted! We arranged that with Rhys a few weeks ago 😉
