language skills a boon

Man, I’m glad I can understand some Japanese. I just overheard some teachers talking about how hard it is to get used to a new timetable. Suddenly the bells not matching with the clock made sense. This school, and just this one, has changed the times it runs on.
Of course, if I was more logically minded or thought more about things rather than accepting them, I may have figured out by now that the timetable had changed. In which case, very lucky I can understand some stuff.
Of course, if I was anywhere but here, they might have thought to tell me.

*shakes head in bewilderment*

I wonder if they’d tell me if the school was on fire….

If it was a Japanese fire, it may be better if you don’t understand that much Japanese, so it wouldn’t affect you!

Hang on…Don’t you have a school liaison who is responsible for passing on such stuff to JET people?

You’d notice if the school was on fire. It would be warm for a change.

The JET program _wishes_ all their contracting organisations were so organised.
It’s entirely up to the school, and I’m luckier than most. ALTs are he absolute last to find out about anything…to the point where a friend last year was teaching and correcting a student for saying there were 3 birds in the picture, not 5, at which point she was told that the students had new textbooks to work from and she didn’t!!!
I have the actions to describe the Ministry of Education’s attitude towards teaching english at schools here *waves hands up and down at semblence of trying* but I don’t think it translates well on paper. It’s Eddie Izzard’s take on the American attempt at converting to metric if you’re familiar with Eddie Izzard….
