Apart

Nothing makes me feel so far away as the death of a dear friend. I wish I could forbid anyone I care about from dying while I’m away. But I know if everyone could do that, then no-one would die cos there would always be someone away. maybe I could just ask it to be limited to no more than one a year… that way I’m home free for the rest of 2004.

Priceless students

I have just finished marking the last of self-intro worksheets students had to do. The last class I taught here (I have no classes this morning and AM FLYING TO CHINA TONIGHT!!!! Not much excited:-) was yesterday and it was a class which had not yet had a class with me, despite me having been here for almost five weeks. Apparently they were worried I didn’t like them. It was actually just that I was sick last week and did not come in either day I was due to teach them.
Anyway, this is what one student wrote (keeping in mind it is a fifteen year old male student)
“My name is Hiroaki Tsujinoto. My hobbies are table tennis and fishing. I like Ms Tinney very much. Because Ms Tinney is English teacher. And she is pretty. I want to be AmberLouise Tinney”
Ms Tinney is muchly amused and flattered.

kowariDecember 17, 2003 - 6:14 pm

ROFL!
That is great… can we all be AmberLouise Tinney?

Pretty please?

Sounds like a fabulous idea, yet perhaps limiting your mobility.

It’s been hot and rainy here.

happy discoveries

There is a Lush in Osaka – in a big, shiny, new shopping complex coveniently next to the station. I had a blissfully ‘happy’ bubble bath today.
And I can now say: I’m going to China NEXT WEEK!!!! Now that’s exciting!

mordwenDecember 8, 2003 - 5:26 am

Yay for Lush and welcome. I have been crazy busy so didn’t respond to your earlier post but I’m glad you’re here! *mwah*

thanks, good to be here!

Newfound geekiness

Now that I’m away from all my beloved geeky friends, I find I am becoming more geeky than ever before (not hard, really) I actually have a pc with windows 98 – though admittedly, it still throws me when ppl comment how old it is! To me it’s still a new toy – albeit somewhat short on colour. I am starting to research what laptop I want to buy when I visit tokyo next year, as well as what sort of digital camera. And I am getting quite addicted to the net, especially loving following what’s happening back home for friends.
And have inadvertantly hooked up with a couple of gamers and magic players, and there are plans for a campaign. And this excites me. One of them is even going to give me cd copy of the latest ed d&d manuals. Am I discovering hitherto undiscovered ponds of geekiness in myself, or am I just pining for my friends so much that I am replicating their attributes in me? I’m guessing it’s the first reason. Maybe it’s more that I have the time and headspace here to delve into these areas which have always been placed on the backburner in my ‘real’ life. hmmm. while I’m on a geekiness thing, must learn to cut entries so people can choose to read further or not. Sorry I don’t know how yet.

teknohippiDecember 7, 2003 - 9:09 pm

d&d manuals

Gosh!
Well I hope that you are pining for us back here too!

You really haven’t had a lot of time dedicate towards developing the “Geek-within”. Even when there was a computer in the house that you were living in the guys would use it all the time and you were working a studyiing etc. It really does not leave a lot of time for other stuff.

Enjoy the extra bit of freedom.
Hugs

Re: d&d manuals

Oh yeah, I’m pining for you guys too….half wish I was going with Shanta to Melb…but I have visits to look forward to next year, NigelW and Kitling sometime in Spring, and Em and Ivan in summer. Bounce! In the meantime, I’m here, in front of puter, nurturing geekiness. Much fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: d&d manuals

Great, Hope that I can get over there at some point too.
BTW how long does stuff take to get there by snail mail?
I am wondering if you would like pirated Pirates CD for Chrissy?
