Typhoons are good for something

As soon as I finish my yummy pineapple I am headed to the beach to be tossed around by the waves brought on by incoming typhoon.
Envy me! Envy me much!!!!

Pity my new fave bar will be closed – it has to on account of being underwater during typhoons!

Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomble for yesterday

tombleJune 20, 2004 - 9:46 am

Ooo, thank you!

We’ll really, truly be getting that box o’ goodies off to you this week!

lirionJune 20, 2004 - 2:01 pm

I envy you indeed m’dear ๐Ÿ™‚

Even as I curl up a ball to appreciate Melbourne’s Winter, which has its own special charm, in the right frame of mind… ๐Ÿ™‚

kowariJune 21, 2004 - 12:00 am

Uh-huh.

Right.

Envy Envy Envy

Yepee for great waves! I won’t tell the Adam (or then again maybe I will and then could be one step closer to getting the boy OS). Adam they have typhoon waves in Japan want to go for a swim there? Do you think I can get away with that?

How good are the pineapples? We had the best pineapples in the Solomons, so sweet and juicy and cheap. I have never had any so good.

Have fun

gypsyamberJune 21, 2004 - 7:13 am

Re: Envy Envy Envy

MMmm.. they’re sweet and juicy but i suspect not as good as the solomons, and not cheap, but still not outlandish – or else i’m more used to prices here than i know! Usually about $4.50 a pineapple, the ones that I buy anyway…i buy the cheapest!!

my qn is: how much does the adam like swimming? if the same as u and i, then that ploy is bound to work!!!Wish I could go down today…the typhoon is here…the waves must be fantastic. But I need more sturdy transport than my bike, methinks. sigh

kitlingJune 22, 2004 - 12:55 am

next year
instead of doing midwinter – we should go overseas and do two midsummers

hugs and wanting rum chai
have passport application all filled out – just wants money added to it ๐Ÿ™‚

gypsyamberJune 22, 2004 - 4:12 am

yes, I wholeheartedly support the idea of two midummers. Definitely a good idea, TM *emphatically nods head*

I could take you to wonderous bar on beach with rum chai…and candle ceremony could be done on the beach ๐Ÿ™‚

Very nice! I’m proud of your formidable language skills. Now, for those of us who barely speak Japanese, much less read it, is there anything in particular that I should know about that top bit, or should I just show up on the 3rd at 7:30, half-naked with a bottle of booze in my hand?

etsbaJune 19, 2004 - 8:33 am

All I can see is a whole pile of little squares!
But reading it in Japanese would’ve been wasted on ignorant me.

gypsyamberJune 20, 2004 - 12:49 am

Just show up half-naked with bottle of booze!!!
Oh, and when I had it corrected I discovered a bit of ๅ’ŒๆญŒๅฑฑในใ‚“ใ€€I have picked up without realising it wasn’t standard Japanese: the conditional form of ่จ€ใ†ใ€€(to say). I wrote ใ€€่จ€ใ†ใŸใ‚‰ when in actual fact the standard plain way of saying it is ่จ€ใˆใฐใ€€or ่จ€ใฃใŸใ‚‰ใ€€(the second being very casual speech)! I had no idea as I use the version I wrote all the time (in the context of ‘when I say blah, I mean’ or ‘ when you talk about blah, do you you mean/what do you mean?’)
My teachers got a great kick out of me using ๅ’ŒๆญŒๅฑฑในใ‚“ใ€€and now I know one of the subtleties of it – it always stumps me when people ask me what stuff of ๅ’ŒๆญŒๅฑฑในใ‚“ do I know…apart from the shortening negatives to ใ‚“ or using ใธใ‚“ใ€€instead of ใชใ„, I never know what to reply. ใ„ใ„ๅ‹‰ๅผทใซใชใฃใŸ๏ผ

Yes, it would’ve been wasted on you as you already understand the concept of toga parties!! All the important details are in english..the jap is simply giving the whats and whys of a toga party and there will be pictures added…the english invite will be something along the lines of: toga party, my place, july3rd BYO!!!!

kitlingJune 22, 2004 - 1:09 am

toga toga toga!!

can i come?

bear – buy me a plane ticket!

gypsyamberJune 22, 2004 - 4:13 am

Of course!!! Invite extends to all!!!

Happy happy joy joy

I spoke to many many friends last night, toasted Nat’s b’day with a Quila shot over the phone (thank-you to Ceri and Georgie for providing cleavages at either end of the line ๐Ÿ˜‰ , then joined Shanta, Ceri, Ches and Stu for a convivial night of eating, drinking, joking and talking until daylight sent us crawling to bed. Between Ches and Ceri, I also luxuriated in a lion’s share of cuddles.
Last night was the best of both my worlds – as best as it gets until I can coax some of my friends here to visit me once I’m home again in Melbourne!
PUUURRRRRRR.
A very happy gypsyambercat ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m in Canberra at Mikey & Liz’s place with a bunch of people from the con (Phenomenon) including Mark (of course), Kitling, NigelW, Teknohippi, Adam of no LJ, Delwin and many others I’m not sure you know … We’ve been to the banquet (where I was plied with lots of drinks – for my b’day) and we’re now onto the tequila shots …. and we’re having them for both my b’day and for you ๐Ÿ™‚ Unfortunately there’s not enough corsets but it’s nice and cosy and comfy… and I am in quite a happy state! *grin*

Anyway, I miss you and I got your hug and kiss from Kitling and they are well and truly returned!!!

Love’n’hugs’n’purrs’n’scratches’n’snuggles gorgeous one ๐Ÿ™‚

gypsyamberJune 13, 2004 - 2:19 pm

Hi gorgeous!!! Thank-you thank-you thank-you for the phone call!!!! And as you see, I got off and immediately checked to see what mischievous things you may have been writing here!!!
Fingers crossed for you, me, Melbourne and con goodness!!! Less than a year.

lovenhugsnsnugglesnpurrsnscratchesnsmooches right back at you, birthday girl ;-9

zen_catJune 14, 2004 - 11:47 pm

fyi

Adam does actually have an LJ, though he never updates it – evil_hamster

zen_catJune 14, 2004 - 11:48 pm

So when are you actually back in Melbourne?

teknohippiJune 15, 2004 - 12:16 am

About and before april Second – Amber has a date to keep for me!

gypsyamberJune 15, 2004 - 12:23 am

I’ll be visiting for two-three weeks next Mar/Apr on account of a certain couple getting married! Will not have good idea of dates until late August which is when I get my next year’s schedule. It’s gonna be a bit wierd ‘visiting’ home! Especially with not having a family home to stay at (though Fi and Adam’s is bound to be more fun), no Ophelia with me and no LC either..will probably be hiring a car for at least half the time. Can not be totally carless! But it will be wierd not driving round in LC.
I’ll be back for good (ish) early January 2006. Basically I finish my contract here next year, July 27, after which I will be taking off to India for five months. I want to be in India for the New Year and then fly home around 2nd/3rd of January which will give me almost a month to find a place to live and start settling in back home before my make-up diploma starts.
man, I can’t believe I have plans right up to jan 2006…it really does sound quite insane, but exciting too.

Oh and I think Shanta is giving serious thought to visiting Melbourne while I’m there next year..so the best of both worlds may be combining a whole lot sooner than I imagined. I think Blair is also getting curious to come and visit – he wants to meet all the funky, interesting-looking people in the photos on my wall!!!! yay for friends who travel!!
Speaking of which, not too long now till you head off to China..what, three months?

gypsyamberJune 15, 2004 - 12:24 am

*chuckles*

You betcha!!!!

zen_catJune 15, 2004 - 3:24 am

> man, I can’t believe I have plans right up to jan 2006…

Be careful, it could be interpreted as a sign of maturity :). Plans are good – How long is the Diploma going to take you?

> Speaking of which, not too long now till you head off to
> China..what, three months?

Yep, 3 months and counting – I’ll be over there for the second half of september. I’m starting to get quite excited about the whole event.

gypsyamberJune 15, 2004 - 5:03 am

The diploma will take 6 months…then there is the opportunity to go and study in Hollywood for three weeks….money and grades allowing!

You’ll have so much fun in China. I really want to go back!

teknohippiJune 16, 2004 - 2:27 am

Cool

>Oh and I think Shanta is giving serious thought to visiting Melbourne while I’m there next year

And she is more than welcome to attend the wedding too. It will be great to see her again if she can manage it.
All this talk of travel is making me wish I could at the moment but what with no job and a wedding to plan it would not be the best idea. I will just have to live my travel life through you guys….

kitlingJune 22, 2004 - 4:51 am

you can stay at our place as well ๐Ÿ™‚

And given we have two cars and bear works from home – one of them should be borrowable most of the time ๐Ÿ™‚

gypsyamberJune 22, 2004 - 4:57 am

oohh…..may well take you up on that offer…specially if I am able to be home for three weeks…spread the Amber infliction around!!! And borrowable cars sound very very enticing. But the most enticing is simply all the fatty reports I’ve been hearing from your place, and cats, and garden. *bounces in anticipation*
I am getting into salads and curries…just ordered some goat’s fetta and hummos (in a pack, a little bit dubious as to how good it will be…) and am waiting impatiently for delivery. I’m working hard at being a gourmet team fatty over here!!!

kitlingJune 22, 2004 - 5:30 am

team fatty to the rescue!

jess made the best mint and fetta dip for sunday night ๐Ÿ™‚
was great to hear your voice by the way

I would like to make okinomiyummi feast a requirement of you staying – but really I’m going to insist on your company anyway because i want to :), no conditions and all the best food flavoured fun!

Just as well we have multiple spare bedding – because nikkicat and mark will be staying as well.

We also walking distance from adam and fi ๐Ÿ™‚

gypsyamberJune 22, 2004 - 5:50 am

Re: team fatty to the rescue!

yay!

Ooh, do you have recipe for fetta and mint dip…might go down very well at toga party, methinks….

kitlingJune 22, 2004 - 5:56 am

Re: team fatty to the rescue!

I’m hoping Jess will post it to http://www.livejournal.com/community/santushhtah/

Good to know….

I don’t have tuberculosis, nor do I have pneumonia – cos that’s what I was really worried about when I went to the dr on Monday. I was whisked off for e-rays before a dr even saw me, let alone listened to my chest. As I suspected, it is merely an annoying bout of bronchitis. The dr did enlighten me though on the cause of my coughing fits (you mean they’re not due to the infection irritating my chest?!?) Naturally, being female, I get very nervous when having to speak in front of large groups of people, ie. classes, and this is what causes my coughing fits. Thank-you so much for clarifying that for me! Need I point out any one particular reason why I have less than 100% faith in the doctors over here?!?

This week has consisted of sleep, sleep, the occasional attempt at work and more sleep. My goal: to have fully functional lungs and voice box by next Monday. (I need them to be heard over my oh so genki students)

By the by, a qn for the Melbites: is cam on tonight? Want to call the house of much debauchery and sin at optimal time for speaking to as many people as possible. That time will be after midnight if cam is on….

teknohippiJune 11, 2004 - 5:09 am

Sin and Debauchery? Us? Never…

Just checking stuff and saw your query. The Cam session on tonight is not the court game. It is either Mage or Sabbat. So there will not be to many people caught up as there would be if it was a court session.

I to am feeling pretty blah and have booked tickets to roleplay over the weekend in Canberra (Arrgghh does anyone want to take my spot?) Hope you feel better soon and look forward to speaking with you later tonight.

tee hee had fun today when I bought Caroline a magum of champagne – This should be fun to watch.

gypsyamberJune 11, 2004 - 5:17 am

Re: Sin and Debauchery? Us? Never…

I want lots of photos of fur, feathers, fins and Quila shots!!!!!!!!!

m0lybdenumJune 11, 2004 - 5:35 am

I feel your Doctor pain.

Sunday I was extremely dizzy and couldn’t leave the couch without falling down. Monday I tried to go to work and nearly fainted in class. I went to the doctor and after a 2 minute examination she said it was just the weather. I was livid.

Then the office lady tried to make me take Nenkyu for the rest of the day. Riiiiiiight.

Get well soon, though!

lukeiiJune 11, 2004 - 6:09 am

The Dr. sounds right to me!

You weak female types, always coughing your lungs up when you are nervous (which is pretty much all of the time, right?)

I’m surprised he didn’t tell you to get back in the kitchen where you belong and stop trying to do a man’s job like teaching.

gypsyamberJune 11, 2004 - 6:50 am

That’s bullshit…that’s what byokyu is for…grrr! I don’t blame you being livid. I hope you’re feeling better now….

gypsyamberJune 11, 2004 - 6:51 am

I’m sure he wanted to!

etsbaJune 11, 2004 - 12:27 pm

Great doc.. Did you give him an earful, y’know, disprove his theory about women?

gypsyamberJune 11, 2004 - 2:40 pm

I would’ve but I was too busy coughing…damned feminine nervousness!!!!

books, books, books

I bought 37 books yesterday!! WHEEEEEE!!!!!!

There is a second-hand ENGLISH bookstore in Kobe which I have been wanting to go to for months, but have been unable to due to it’s mon-fri opening hours.
But, have just spent three days in Kobe for the Recontracting conference so was able to visit it yesterday. Just before heading there, I ran into someone else who had been there the day before and said it was very disappointing – very little in the way of real literature. This did make me pause, but I went anyway and I’m so glad I did.
It was a typical pokey little bookshop with books stacked high, double stacked on shelves and piles on the floors. After a couple of hours of perusing every single shelf, I ended up with an impressive stack of books for $120, plus $6 to have it _courier_ delivered to my house in 24 hours. I do love the courier service within Japan – so efficient, so cheap!
Now, I have enough reading material for quite a while – it’s times like this that I love the fact that I am a slow reader!

zen_catJune 5, 2004 - 12:26 pm

No real literature huh? What are some of the titles that you got?

samurai_justinJune 13, 2004 - 3:00 pm

If I ever make it back up to the mainland, you’ll have to tell me where this place is . . . as long as you didn’t buy all the good books anyway.

gypsyamberJune 14, 2004 - 4:57 am

No, believe it or not I did show _some_ restraint!! Besides a good book is in the eye of the beholder – I spoke to someone at the conference before going and she wasn’t impressed at all with the selection. I’m glad I checked it out anyway!
It is very easy to find too ๐Ÿ™‚
